6 1/2. A simple way to figure this out is this: How many times does 2 go into 13? It goes in 6 times equally. Now you have 1 left over, so how many times does 2 go into 1? It goes in 1/2 times, so there's your 1/2.

A mixed number is a whole number plus a fraction. Any fraction can be made into many mixed number. The most common one chosen, though, is the one with the smallest fraction.

Divide 13 by 2: the whole number is the whole part, and the remainder is the fractional part.

13/2 = 6 1/2

13/2 is 13 divided by 2 so when you actually use long division to work out, the quotient is 6 with a remainder of 1. So, the answer is 6 1/2 (mixed number).

13........2 x 6 + 1/2
---- =....................... = 6 1/2
2
