I've been living with this freshman, 18 yr old housemate, for two weeks...anyway, the thing is, I'm sitting with my housemate and we're just listening to some rock music when the kid asks me out of the blue "Do you love me?"
I was flabbergasted on the inside but acted like I hadn't heard a thing was glad beyond relief when another housemate popped into my rooom and 'saved me by the bell'. Anyway, what should i tell the kid if he asks that again?

That is kind of an odd thing to just come out and say...
That all depends if how you feel. Do you love him? Are you both gay? Were you flabbergasted because the Idea of him loving you appealed to you? Or, were you flabbergasted because the idea of a guy loving you repulsed you? Or were you flabbergasted because you are gay and no one knows and the idea of someone seeing that in you when you haven't come out scared you... you see there are so many things missing from your question that need addressing.
Love is a scary word for most men... Love is an emotion. The simplest thing to do is don't worry about it. If the situation comes up again, ask him "in what way? What do you mean", then respond with how you feel... Just deal with it. It won't kill you.

I worked with a male, who used to say "I love you" to any other male. He was straight. He would add, as one man can love another man." It was obvious he meant it in a brotherly way. You might answer something along the line of "like a brother".

Ask him what he means by "love"; what is his definition of love?
People ask that question all the time, it depends on what they mean. If he means as a friend, or a brother, or in a sexual way, then you can answer accordingly. Good luck.

maybe he thought or knew u were gay so he was makin sure that u have no feelings for him...so that he can be normal with u and clear this idea in his mind.
