Why do some people persist in believing ridiculous conspiracy theories about the September 11th terrorist attacks?

Despite the mountain of evidence that 19 al-Qaeda terrorists committed the 9/11 attacks (including the videotaped statements the terrorists made before the attacks saying what they planned to do) why do some folks cling to unbelievable theories about the US government carrying out the attacks?

When facts contradict people's personal beliefs about what is right and wrong, there are two options:
1. Question your personal beliefs.
2. Deny the facts.
For people with very strong personal beliefs, number 2 is MUCH easier.

If the news prints it people will believe it at least some will. Newss Junkie sometimes shape their own existence around certain news players like O'Rielly Rush L and Jon Stewart. Take their personalities and wow you get these theories.

I was told to believe 30% of what you hear, 50% of what you see and 75% of what you actually experience. You have to leave at least 25% to reasoning.,

Because ever since the JFK assassination, many have felt they were never given the whole truth about major events. But mostly it's because they have too much free time to ponder things like that in between eating bags of Fritos and watching Desperate Housewives.

It wouldn't be the first time an elaborate cover-up led people to believe the wrong thing.

I don't think that's the case here, but it happens all the time - and some people really need something to do!

Probably because they are open minded and don't believe everything the government tells them. History has shown that "our" government lies to its people all the time. Wake up before it's too late and you no longer have your freedom.
