Hi, recently my father got posted on deputation to a country
in North Africa (I bet if I tell you its name you'd say "Where the hell's that?). It's really boring here. No TV, you can't
get net connection in your house and the speed sucks in cafes (sheesh even a 14 kbps modem would outspeed it).
Also, hardly
anyone understands or speaks English so it's pretty much impossible to make friends and play games. No computer games
available, football and other sports aren't telecasted and you don't get anything in the market (the imports have been banned
for 2 years)
...We have to stay here for 2 years and as of now only 4 months have gone and I have allready been feeling lonely
and bored. The only thing to occupy me, albiet for very little, is my school's homework. I try to keep myself busy by writing
faqs for games, making small sites and the like but it isn't working...I would really thank you in the dearest regard if you
have a solution [no, going back to

You did not mention reading. A great way to make time pass while getting entertained with novels or learning from non fiction books. A hobby and friends would make life more fun. Be creative.

Hm... maybe you should make an effort to learn the language. Then, you can make friends while you're there. It will also be very valuable in the future if you have to come back.
Believe it or not, you are very lucky; You have a great oppurtunity to learn about a culture and become fluent in a foreign language, a very valuable skill.
Maybe you can find a hobby like writing, reading, drawing, or photography to take up your time.

I know how you feel (I have been there before)
One of the things that you may do, is to look for other foreigners who may feel like you and have a small gathering to meet and chat.
Computer is fun but if it’s slow - It can drive you crazy- & still it’s not enough for fun.
Sounds like you are a teenage. So, I think if your father posted there for only 2 years, try to make the best out of it. I am sure this is his job's demands and he is doing this to secure your future. I bet he is feeling as bored as you but he is not complaining.
Look for new friends. I am sure you will meet many kids like you.
Good luck & I wish you feel better soon.

Sounds like you are stuck in LİBYA, THE GREAT JAMAHARİYA.
ı used to be there also around 1993-1994 and even then it was very boring.no where to go , nothing to do, nothing to watch but what I did to keep myself insane was to write letters to my friends at my native country ( that time no internet available) or you can move to a place called regata. ıt is a place where all foreigners are living ( but ı dont know if the place still stays) and the youngsters all gather up at evenings and nights at the cafe and have fun.there are tennis courts and its at the sea side.I used to go to Tripoli collage and always there were parties thrown at houses. you can attend them . Or ı dont know your nationality but you can come together with you own community and spend time together. I know not very good ıdeas but you should adjust yourself according to the enviroment . dont wait the enviroment to adjust itself for you believe me that never happens.
then when its all finished and when you return back to your country , ıt will be all over and you ll become your normal self
best wishes and good luck

I stayed in East Africa last year for 6 mos, nothing much to do really, I visited clubs everynight, then got really bored after that, I bought a digital camera and start shooting photos of locals on the streets, somehow it helped me to pass time.

I think you are living a unique experience. why don't you write a book about it? you can tackle it from so many sides:
How sometimes kids have to be uprooted to follow their parents
how hard it is for the new generation to live without what people lived without for centuries ( internet, computer games...)
Your effort to communicate with people who don't speak your language
Describe life in this country that time seems to have forgotten and take up photography to illustrate your book.

I have no idea where you are at but, why did your dad leave you there,,I would move. You could go to the library. You can get yahoo so go to the games on there.Try going to www.iwin.com and www.pogo.com there are some good games on both of them.
