I recently switched from cable internet to DSL ( DSL is better) When I had cable however when I lost power the router didn't need to be reprogramed. Now have the router set up for the new IP and everytime the power goes off I have to set it up all over again. Without being too model specfic does anyone know why that would happen? It is a Linksys router. What can I do to fix this problem?

you dont realy have to reprogram your router.. all you have to do is to turn off your modem and router at the same time.. leave them off for 10-15 sec.. turn on the modem first then the router..
the reason behind this is when you were assigned to have dynamic IP.. basically when you have power outage it will turn off your modem.. so once you got your modem back on.. your ISP will assign new IP to your modem. and modem should pass it to your router..but if router was able to boot up even before your modem does.. then IP would have conflict within your router. you also have to make sure that if your using dynamic ip. you should use DHCP on your router. dont assign IP on it

Without being too mode;l specific... what you need to find is the command to write the configuration to stable storage or nvram... so it remembers it at next power up.

Not sure what the command is on linksys routers... your manual may help or someone may know the command! Could do it on cisco ones... not DSL ones.
