What with all the inane bhollocks about BB taking up our interest, there is the biggest comet for 100 years in the sky, does anybody know or care about it?

It is Comet McNaught. It has just gone round the sun and is now on its way out of the solar system. It is near the sun and can be seen at first light and at dusk. Happy Astronomy!

It is as big as a tree here on Earth and is like a big white pencil. It is the brightest since the Great Comet in the late 19th C. Sorry I do not have a link, try Googling it.

Yes, I´m watching it right now. It´s awesome.
According to wikipedia, it´s the brightest in 40 years (since Comet Ikeya-Seki in 1965).
I´m in Argentina. Here´s a picture taken in my city:

There was an article in the Evening Standard about it (the comet) earlier in the week. From memory (and it's pretty poor) it was going to visible in the South West although only for a few days? Ideally, first thing in the morning/daylight which was what made it interesting.

If all that's true, not sure you'll still be able to see it now.

Yes, I have seen on it the 17th, 19th and 20th from South Africa (it can no longer be seen from the northern hemisphere, as it moved here to the southern hemisphere on the 13th of Jan). It is spectacular, and really amazing to see. I expect to see it tonight as well - can't wait. It is visible just after sunset here, and is situated to the left of Venus. The comet is as bright as Venus, and the tail is very long. If you are in the southern hemisphere have a look after sunset.

I haven't been able to get a good look at it...the weather hasn't cooperated.
Anyway...it probably doesn't look nearly as cool as Comet Hiakutaki looked 10 years ago the night it looked like a snowball getting dumped out of an "overturned" Big Dipper.
Must have been an omen!

I saw it naked-eye from Massachusetts USA just after sunset on January 12. It was brighter than Venus, but down in the twilight.

You can't see it while the Sun is set in the Northern Hemisphere anymore, but it should be spectacular in the Southern Hemisphere over the next few days after sunset.

No, I didn't know that there was a comet! Now I know I will be looking for it tonight, as long as the sky is clear.

Where what how and when???? Post the link for us to get some info!!! I care...I'd rather be watching a gaseous ball of unknown origins streaking across my vision oh wait a minute...maybe tht sounds like the recently evicted Jade??? hmmm...let me rephrase that...I'd rather watch a celestial body than a 'seen-it-all-before' body..........
