He is a wack job. That is true. He defended Castro on Nightline once.

Simply because of what he had to suffer (years of imprisonment) for taking a stand re his beliefs (No matter that those beliefs may not have been main-stream).
Martyrs add respectability to one's cause (or race) also. So, sometimes they are selected by popularity rather than sensibility.......
