About 20 years ago, I posted a medium-length quote about Earth on my classroom wall. It began with something like, "If the Earth were a ball, spinning in the middle of the room . . . wonderful . . . precious . . . etc. It provided an imagery that is essential at the alternative school where I now teach. I have searched quote sites on the web, but no luck so far.

I don't know about the quote you're looking for, but there is an old Native American proverb (Navaho, I think) that goes like this ...

"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors
We borrow it from our children."

I was taught that when you borrow something you should return it in at least as good condition as it was when you borrowed it in the first place. So far we're not doing so well.
