I keep home made play dough in the fridge wrapped tightly in saran wrap and then in an airtight container. I find that the same thing works out of the fridge for commercially made ones. If it gets too hard, microwave if for a few seconds to soften it up again. I do mean a few seconds.

Make sure you keep it in an air tight container.

whenever you're not using it, keep it in the container. adding a little bit of water can help make is softer.
