An Afro-Limey?

Depends on the part of the world. The term I've seen used by black people in Britain to describe their community is Afro-Caribbean because the vast majority of black people in Britain immigrated from the Caribbean after WWII to help rebuild the nation's infrastructure. That doesn't mean they don't consider themselves British anymore than the term African-American means that black Americans don't consider ourselves fully American.

Whomever called her African American was just mistaken. As for the name that "we" give to various groups of black people, I'd suggest you find out how that group prefers to be referred to and use that term. Doesn't strike me as a huge deal or any imposition at all and its exactly the consideration you expect when people are referring to you..

I don't know why so many whites in this country have an issue with black Americans using the term African-American. Many of these same people are quite determined to cling to their racial identifications as "whites," rather than just calling themselves human.

I come from an African country where we've never had the urge to label people by race. Black people else where are just that.....black. White's are just white, anyone from Asian continent is an Asian (that calls for the East Indians too)
We all just fall under the name of the country. I think life would be easier in America if everybody went by "American".

I guess Naomi is black....if you want to identify further, then she is a Black Brit.!?...it doesn't even fit...lol. She's black to me.

Only black people living in, or born in, the USA can be Afro-American. Why would any one think that people of the same racial stock living elsewhere would be called Afro-American? In the UK they are called British. We still have a few swivel-eyed lunatics who would use derogatory terms.

Hmmm... I think I'll put this question on my "watch list" because I don't understand it either.. even after being around the world a couple of times and returning back to USA...

To me, it seems that ANY name (other than "American") for people in the USA invites some form of discrimination or different treatment.. but that is just me, I guess.

That's a very valid point. She is not and it seems noone really knows that kinda terms besides the USA.
Don't forget this country is swallowed by the Politically Correct. But it trips on itself every now and then because of how stupid it is. That's why in Europe, people of other origins are European with such and such origin, period, no invented terms for them.
But most of all, they will refer to others as blacks or whites or asians.
But labeling others either by their colors or by their race or any other form besides what the name on their passport is is a sort of discrimination, simply from the very point you already put them in a category, winlingly or not, that is judged and viewed a different way by others.
