To what extent though, i think Americans in general be more likely to help as if you compare to people in other developing countries.

I picture this scene in some countries, if someone faints on the street due to medical conditions and passerbies would check if his pocket has any money left or any watches on him.

In my own observations, Americans are slow to help strangers in big ways...

They are glad to help in small ways...

many feel that their taxes are already high enough to help and so they don't need to do it on their own...

After helping someone in a big way and then having that person totally trash your help (as in some of the misguided and ill conceived housing projects that have been tried) just turns people away from helping anymore...

and it is so much easier to kick them and tell them to get a job!
