I am an adult and I recently signed up for an accounting class to further my career. It's been several years since I was a full time student and I haven't even been reading a lot in the past few years, so I'm having a really hard time focusing to study and do my homework. It's only the second week, so there's no exam hanging over my head...yet, but I really want to learn the material and do well. Any advice?

Take frequent "breaks"; work/read for 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, then take a 15 minute break...watch TV, listen to music, get a snack, take a walk....my son's going through the same thing and this is he does it and it works!

Hi,

I remember going back to school after taking about a year off...it is difficult to get back in the swing of things...This is how I did it.

Remember that what you need is your space and time. Wherever you feel comfortable. At home or in the library, but don't let yourself be distracted. It takes some time to train yourself to sit and do homework or study. Repetition is the key to getting into good habits. Have an excellent light source, quiet space and time, study for lengths you can endure and build your stamina. Take small breaks as you need them and remember to focus on your materials...you will do fine.

Set yourself a reasonable time limit...say an hour. Turn the phones off so you're not distracted. If you have family, tell them it's the quiet hour and not to disturb you. Study for that hour, then give yourself a treat, whatever you like. Take a little break. Then set one more hour.

If this helps, if you play a soothing Cd it helps you focus more and puts your mind at a state of rest. It also helps the time pass, so you don't have to worry about not completing the homework. Hope this helps

I think you should work hard like really hard in class, do your homework and always ask the teacher for help if you need some!
Just to keep your marks high ask the teacher to give you something to do.

Hope That Helps!
