Why are there so many unresolved questions?

Don't people watch to see the answers to their questions, then choose a best answer? There are soooo many up for open vote that they can't ALL get resolved, can they?

I dont choose a best answer for some of my questions because I dont like any of the answers.

Many times people dont answer the question asked. It makes me wonder if people even take the time to read and think about what I wrote. They answer everything but the question, or they give a cliched answer. I want a different point of view. Im not benefiting if you give me an answer thats common knowledge.

I think it depends on the type of questions. Some probably don't bother to come back to check their questions. Some probably get wildly different answers and are left as clueless about the right answer as when they started. Some questions are intended for fun and putting them up for a vote is part of the fun.

I think the second reason is pretty common in the science and math categories. The sad part is that putting questions in those categories up for a vote often results in the dumbest answer receiving the most votes. The most commonly asked questions are about subjects most people have a lot of misconceptions about.
