Does anyone know the regulations concerning telemarketing in Canada? I received an automated call this morning (at 9AM Saturday) from a home cleaning service waking me up after working until 3AM.

I have checked the CMA website, Better Business Bureau, and Quebec government websites and here is what I understand. They are not supposed to call you before 9AM on weekdays, 10AM on weekends. However I think the rules apply to CMA members and they are voluntary - guidelines but not actual laws.

I'd like to know if the automated dialing services are legal, and if anyone knows of more information on direct marketing and telemarketing rules in Canada.

I put myself on the Do-Not-Call list last year and it did not help, even though it is supposed to reduce calls for 3 years. I just did it again today - suspect that is not really a helpful tool and we need actual legislation to enforce it.

You know what ? I would like to know the answer to this question too..I have researched it too and came up with the same results.

I pay BELL to be on the "do not call" list and I am also unlisted ..never mind !

Realise that lots of companies use random numbers , starting by 123, 124 etc - understand what I mean ? - and call everybody automatically. It is a hit and miss. Once you get "hit", it is recorded and you get to suffer..

I used to receive lots of BS via my fax - same number as my main number because I rarely use it -and calls during the night too; even when I sent a fax back to the number stating that I DID NOT want to be a target : would not do. Ended up taking the phone off the hook at night, and take the papers off the tray of the fax machine..( all that ink wasted for nothing !)

Most people know now that I will not pick up the phone if they have not warned me in advance , either that or I wait till I hear the voice of the caller on my answering machine before deciding to pick up the phone.

It is annoying...that is for sure but...I have realised that if you do it for a while, you don't get as many calls or hardly ever but once it starts again.......here comes the merry go round again.

Good luck !
