If you can't stand your boss, then quit. He's the one who will make your job fun or make it a chore. He's the one who will help make you a success or a failure at that job. If your boss is the one who gives the raises and you hate working for him, you won't want to do a good job and you should go find another job.

One of the approach you could try, apart from trying to get another job, is to do your job exceedingly well the way he watns and then come up alternative ways of doing or presenting a work. Try to make him look good in front of his boss. soon you will find that he is looking for ideas from you. Your influence will grow. this may not always work but you could try and in the process you will learn more about your job and business and help you in gettting a good job.
