I'm intrested in getting a Wii. But I have another question. You will only get Best Answer if you answer this one too:
Do you have to have a Gamecube controller to play Gamecube games on the Wii, or can you just use that Classic controller?

Besides the controller, you also need a GC memory card as the Wii's flash memory will not save GC games. The ports for the GC controllers and the slots for the GC memory card are under the flip panel.
Get the Wii. I've got all 3 and I think this one is the best. You can play all GC games out of the box, and you can download NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx thru their :Virtual Console" service. Those downloaded games will cost Wii points (Wii points? lol) and those can be bought relatively cheaply.

I can't really add anything new here, but considering you've got so many conflicting responses allow me to second what asyland said.
Yes, the Wii can play GameCube games. When it does, though, it essentially goes into a "GameCube mode" and no longer has access to Wii things like the wireless controllers or internal memory. This is why you need a GameCube controller and memory card to use with the ports on the side of the Wii.

You doo need a Gamecube controller to play the gamecube games...the classic controller is mainly for the classic games you can buy off of the browser on the shop channel...but I do recomend the Wii it is an awesome system!

You CAN play gamecube games on wii and you DON'T need a gamecube controller when playing gamcube games on it.
