Sourav Ganguly is fit to play in any position even it is in the 8 position.

The stats and records show that Sachin and Saurav being the all time greatest opening pair not only for India but in entire world. No doubt that during his captaincy period Saurav tried to clip the wings of Sachin by trying to put him in middle order (if one can remember Saurav was a original middle order batsman he never opened in Ranji trophy or other tourneys till he was asked to open along with with that time captain by the captain himself that is Sachin Tendulkar by looking at the potential of Saurav thyat was the greatness of Sachin against the selfish nature of Saurav).
Some people find it strange but true that Saurav was jealous of the popularity of Sachin in India as well as the respect he was getting from all the team members. (Just think about the incidence of declaration of innings by Drawid in Pakistan because there was force from Saurav to do so when Sachin was playing on 194 and just 6 rune away from his double, if it was matter of time India won that match before lunch on the last day so I think there was plenty of time).
Still I think it will be nice to open with Sachin and Saurav as now Saurav has got the maturity that he was missing both of they know each others game, strengths, weaknesses, and there game is just made for each other type you will find a good partnership in no time.
