We don't care.

Seriously.

We don't care, anymore than Brits worry about the video of the PM addressing the House of Commons.

We don't care, anymore than Canadians worry about the fact that Canada is a non-player in the world stage.

We don't care, anymore than Aussies worry about being seen as gun-control crazies (although their international stock has risen recently).

In other words, we don't care. If the French (and others) don't like the way we are the world's policeman then they can spend the money that we spend for their military, and send their sons and daughters to get killed, and do it "right". Until that time, the rest of the countries are just sniveling weaklings.

When you say 'Americans' who are you referring to? The United States is made up of many distinct groups. And overall, the country is more politically divided than at any point in its history. Look at the last two Presidential elections. '00 was too close to call. And '04 was no landslide.

I think these days Bush is losing support even among those who voted for him. And many people are embarrassed about the situation that the U.S. has got itself into.

Most of us are unhappy with the way things are going right now. We aren't happy with our own government right now. But we also feel that no matter WHAT we do, we're going to be criticized by other countries. We have been criticized and insulted and slammed by other countries since long before this war started. Even after WW2, when we made tremendous sacrifices to end Nazi-ism, (when Nazi-ism wasn't even an immediate threat to US) we were called names. Other countries become angry when they see us say things like "We don't care what they think of us...", but the reason we're like that, is because we're going to be criticized anyway. We have always tried to be there to help others in need. We're the first ones to show up on the scene of a devastating earthquake, or Tsunami. But who was there for us in our time of need? When two hurricanes devastated a whole section of our country? When tornado's ravaged the central plains? We never hear anyone say to us, "What can we do to help you?" It doesn't matter, anyway. We'll still be there when even the most hostile of people need us. We're frustrated...that's how we feel.

Considering how politics are run in the rest of the world, I could care less.

Let's see....China: communist. Cuba: communist. North Korea: communist. Iran: insane and Muslim. Russia: hasn't decided what it is yet. Pakistan: do they have a system yet? England: monarchy. There's a novel concept for you. Canada: Confused at best. Saudi Arabia: monarchy. See England. Venezuala: Hugo Chavez; need I say more?

And I should care what the rest of the world thinks of American politics?

Who cares!
You can't go through life letting the opinion of others drive your every decision. Do you think the governments of France or Russia have the best interests of the United States as one of their top concerns?
Look how many countries have a form of government that is a variation of the type of government maintained in the US.

Not much.

I'm not particularly concerned with how the lesser nations of the world percieve the USA. (That would be like the New York Yankees concerning themselves about what your brother's little league team thinks of them). It just doesn't occur to me....ever.

I'm ashamed by the way our present administration has acted. This one will go down in history. I think it will be a long time for the nations of the earth to begin to look to us as a good example. I hope soon the true meaning of democracy will be governed in the USA.
