Racism and tolerant in the same sentence could only mean those of minority races are expected to be tolerant of bigots!

Seriously, I think they are saying that people who have different beliefs don't have to agree but need to tolerate the others right to their beliefs.
Culture would be a much better word than race. To assume all persons of a race all have the same relegion or cultural norms is well racist!
I personally beleive "to respect" would be a better goal than "to tolerate."

Since I am not bothered by people with different skin tones I am not required to tolerate them. I only need to tolerate that which bothers me.

That's a good point. Tolerance is usually "putting up with things," which isn't a great view, eh?

I just looked it up.
It CAN mean:
The capacity to endure hardship or pain.
OR it can mean:
The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.

The last definition is much more friendly.

Yes.

Respect would be a far better goal. Toleration implies that the person is doing or being something that requires one's indulgence.

You tolerate loud music, body odor, and loud boorish behavior. You don't tolerate someone's race. Sheesh.

It is usually tolerance about racist or religious expression. I think it,s about respecting others regardlessly. Why?

i think Jesus taught tolerance when he said love your enemy. because with love you can find your "perceived" enemy is a better freind than those of you own household.

Hmm, yes I see your point.
Maybe we should be "accepting" rather that tolerating.
