Please check your book to make sure you write this problem correctly. Do you mean: 2b^2 Or, (2b)^2?

1. If you just have 2b^2...

First: you can express the term without the exponent...

= 2*b*b

2. If you have: (2b)^2...

First: express the term withouth the exponent...

(2b)(2b)

= 4b^2

Is it 2b^2 or (2b)^2?

If it's 2b^2, then it's the answer since it is not an equation and is already simplified.

If it's (2b)^2, the the answer is 4b^2.

2b² = 2 x b x b. . .The square is with the b only

(2b)² = 4 x b x b. . .The square is with the coefficeint and variable

Calculus ? Differentiate?

Multiply the number term with the power.
and take away 1 from the power term.

to get 4b
