I know VII was more popular but which one was better. VII was more cartoony but VIII looked more realistic. I also miss the world map in the newer ones.

FF 7 is better than FF 8 when it comes to story (but FF 8's story is better than any other FF's except 7)
Graphics... Of course the one that comes out at a much later date has better graphics than before so FF8's graphics are much better..
Actually you don't really have to choose which is better, just play'em
both.. You'll be really satisfied.. ^_^

They should have "Advent Children" or what ever movie it will be based on Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VIII's character design and story fits more on what they have in mind for "Advent Children".
Final Fantasy VII though got more brand recognition, so they basically hacked Final Fantasy VIII into Final Fantasy VII and the result is "Advent Children".
Final Fantasy VIII's storyline is more movie-ish, while Final Fantasy VII's storyline is more TV series-ish. The different of the type of their storylines partly explained their popularity.
Character design wise, I prefer Final Fantasy VII.

Yeah Final Fantasy VII and VIII should work on the ps2. I have FF VIII and it worked well with my ps2 system. 98-99% of the ps1 games work on ps2. Oh yeah and you need a ps1 memory card but those are fairly easy to find on ebay.

It has to be FF7. The actual storyline was excellant. although graphics wasnt as good as FF8 but just overall it was better.
440 hrs i spent on that game getting all levels up in the red submarine. lol. And not 1 bit of boredom.

7 man it's way better than 8 although 8 has better graphics 7 has a better storyline and if you get sucked up into 7 i'd recommend ff7 Dirge of Ciberous for ps2 it's really cool and it's hard.

I just could'nt get into 8's card game gah! 7 had an amazing story with characters that you just could'nt help but get absorbed in
