Use only 1 firewall at the same time ----- Comodo , or ZoneAlarm Free can be downloaded from Filehippo. Comodo may be a hair better ------- If you do use one of these firewalls --- then go into the control panel -- under security , and disable the windows built-in firewall. Don"t allow 2 to run at same time. I have Comodo on 1 of my computers and ZoneAlarm Free on another -- with the windows firewall turned off -- using Xp/sp2. I"m trying out another firewall on my 3rd computer using Server 2003 -- results still pending . The other 2 are working fine. +++Spock+++

No. You cannot run two firewalls or antivirus programs. Two firewall programs will conflict with one another.
When you install most firewalls, ZA, SyGate, Outpost, Kiero, the will disable the Windows firewall.
The reason the Windows firewall is so poor is that it only regulates out going traffic and not very well. It will allow incoming traffic unregulated.
I personally like and have been using SyGate 5.6 for several years. It is no longer supported by Symantec but is still considered to be very effective. It is also very like or resources.

A firewall is a guard standing on the door of your computer looking at the type of traffic (not the content of the traffic) that is flowing in and out.
You can install another firewall, but what matters most are the rules that you feed to your firewall.
Don't have the illusion that installing tons of firewalls will make you anymore secure.
A good starting point for you is to get ZoneAlarm firewall (free, search for it online). Disable your windows firewall (from the control panel - security options), and load ZoneAlarm.
Now, each time an application on your computer will request data from the internet, you will be asked to allow it or not. Same thing will happen each time an entity on the internet requests a service running on your computer. By Interactively enabling/disabling applications, you are actually writing an access policy that depicts the type of traffic flowing in your PC.
I hope this finds you well!
NB: ZoneAlarm does not affect computer/network performance in anyway, and is made freely available by the software development company.

Use only one firewall. Usually paid-antivirus software will have a firewall included. If you want a free one, then i agree with the others. Use ZoneAlarm. But paid ones have a comprehensive features to keep your computer safe.
Note: Windows Firewall will be auto-disabled by 3rd party firewalls

Yes you can install another firewall but you cannot run more than one simultaneously. Most of the latest firewalls will disable Windows Firewall automatically, but it is not a bad idea to disable it before installing the other one.

You can install another firewall. It is much safer to use something other than windows firewall. It only monitors incoming traffic. So if something infected your computer and wanted to send that information out it could without windows firewall detecting it.
I like a firewall from Comodo.

Try Zone Alarm. It is free and very highly rated. Remember run only one firewall and one anti-virus program at a time. You can run several spyware programs at once.

it's okay if u want to get the new firewall. but for me it's enough for me to have the windows firewall.
if u have more than one firewall, your PC or system will break down due to the unsupported firewall.
