Good luck with this!
My dad didn't pay my mum for three years and she went to a child support agency and they garnish wages and eventually took away his license because he never paid so then he used that as an excuse not to pay her.

I hope your ex isnt a jerk!!

Its not a federal law, it goes by state and it based a certain percentage of the parental obligation based on the combined income of both parents, NYS one child is 17% of combined income, but its actually not that cut and dry there are all sorts of little things that can affect the support, including medical, daycare etc, there are a few worksheets each for a different type of custody agreement.

here is the link to the north carolina support collections unit https://nddhacts01.dhhs.state.nc.us/home.jsp?TargetScreen=WorkSheet.jsp

It's not a federal law, it varies state by state.
You should contact a lawyer that specializes in this or contact the court that handles those cases they should give you some kind of idea.
In Michigan, it depends on what each party makes, their dependants living in their household, child care expenses and medical expenses. Usually the higher earner pays a lot more. I know it's not fair. It's never 50/50 unless both parties have the child equal amount of time.

It's not federal law! Look it up online, most states if not all have their own guidelines and child support worksheets. Most take into account what both parents incomes are.
