You can buy things on ebay with a basic bank account, depending on what payment methord the seller accepts.

Most sellers prefer paypal, since it is secure and there is a complant process if someone doesn't send or pay for an item.

Paypal is the recognised way of paying for items on EBAY.

It's like having another bank account, you credit money into your Paypal account just like any other and then use that to pay for any goods.

As i understand there are some very good systems set up which help if there are any disputes over goods when bought using this system, not that I've ever used it

Paypal is a "messenger" which transfer money from the buyer to the seller, so the seller dont see your bank details.

You only need a bank account with a credit/debit card to set up paypal.

Most people on ebay pays with paypal.

Paypal is an itermediary owned by EBAY, so they make money from posting the ad, from the sale, and from sending the money. The only good thing is that sometimes you can get your money back, but dont let this fool you. You can get your money back anyway by suing your credit card company if you pay with your credit card. The cheapest way to pay electronically is to use BACS which is the banks own system for sending money. It stands for Banking Automated Clearance System. Its the same thing that you use to pay your bills online from your bank account. ITS FREE !!!!!! NOBODY TAKES A COMMISSION !!!
ITS FAST!!!!! ITS SECURE !!!!! But, like a cheque, you cant get your money back.

yes you can, but many buyers and sellers prefer paypal as you do not give out your credit card details to anyone if you use it, it's like another bank, you register with them, giving your credit card details, then you pay paypal, and they pay the seller, so the seller knows no details of you bank account also the buyer and seller can be using different currencies, but paypal will sort this all out.. It's the safest way to pay on E bay, and many other non e bay companies use it for internet dealings. I will ONLY buy from people who will accept paypal, and only sell to people who will bring me the cash, or pay through Paypal.

PayPal is like a online bank, they don't share your information with the seller. So this is a way to keep your financial information secure. I have used PayPal for years without an incident. I won't buy from a seller that does not accept PayPal.
