This is a law that went to far, and I would like to add, it would be considered a conservative law, not a liberal one!

I just saw the Mayor of Bangor on the Today show and he had the audacity to compare this to smoking in resturants.
I don't own a resturant so I can accept no smoking but I own my car. How dare you tell me I can't smoke inside my own property.
This law goes against my Constitutional Rights and it will be challenged and repealed.
I don't smoke and if I did I wouldn't expose my children to it.
The mayor kept using the words "common sense". Basically he was saying that the citizens of Bangor do not have any common sense so they must enact such a stupid law.

When I was nine, my mother used to smoke around me. I asked her to quit, I yelled at her to quit. I could not stand the smell of smoke on her, let alone on me, my hair, my clothes. Whenever she would light a cigarette, I would walk away from her, to another room, out of the house, wherever, to both show her my distaste for the habit, and, more importantly, to get myself away from the smoke. The one place I hated more than anywhere in the world was her car, because I had nowhere to run to. I had to limit my breaths, and, if she would not let me open the window (if it was cold or too hot, raining or in a dangerous area) I had no choice but to smoke the cigarette with her, except with no filter, by breathing the second hand smoke she exhaled. Adults can drive themselves in a smoke free car. I had no choice. I had to go to school, to soccer practice, to where ever I needed to be taken. I was NINE YEARS OLD. If my mother had been hitting me when I was nine child services would have been involved, and no one would have questioned the logic of their involvement. But when a smoker exercises their "right" to inflict the harm of carcinogenic smoke on a young child because they are addicted to nicotine, for some reason people agree with them. It is time to let logic overcome addiction. Give children their breath back. Finally, a city in this country recognizes the torture that smoking parents inflict on their children in an automobile, and refuses to let it continue. Bangor, Maine finally gives children room to breath.

I know I'm in the minority on this one but frankly I really don't care. I think this is a complete violation of rights. And in case you want to know, I am a mom and I do smoke in the car and in the house. Again, I know most will disagree but I don't care, its my choice and I am fine with my choice. Fortunately, I don't hear any talk of bans like this where I live.

it's only a law that ban smoking with children in the car. it shouldn't even have to be made a law people should have enough sense not to smoke near children.

Ok, maybe to keep children healthier. But the liberal SmokingNazis just want to make it as difficult as possible to smoke. No one is forcing anyone to smoke. It's a choice and the government shouldn't control how you make it.

I think it is proper since children cannot speak up for themselves. However, good health policy cannot be legislated it has to be learned, so while the thought is good the effect might not be that visible.
