The Tigers are bigger and stronger.
Once there were Lions in the whole Asia. The Tigers have killed and driven the lions away from Asia.
Asiatic lions are protected from tigers in the Gir Sanctuary in India, the only place in the entire Asia.
A Lion is bold and elegant. But a tiger is more alert, cunning and a better hunter.
In fact about 20 Lions were reintroduced in North India 50 years back. But some were killed by tigers and others died later.

People always tend to lean towards lions but beause they live in prides, I don't think that would make them as tough because when its prey is being killed they all hunt it down to kill it. Where as a tiger does not use that method as often as a lion does. Tigers generally kill alone. Meaning a full grow tiger may not need as much help as a grown lion does. So, with that being said as you already know Tigers Work Alone. Are you yourself stronger working alone? or are you weaker with the help of a few friends. I'll let you answer that question. A tigers jaw is very much like that of a lions jaw. The teeth are also very similar. The lions head seems to be larger then a tigers, but that has no effect on it. Don't forget the camoflauge provided by a tigers stripes, this gives them an advantage that the lion doesn't have. In my opinion tigers and lions both are very large cats. The tiger being just a tad larger in size. They are both kings of there own jungles. The tigers in India, and Siberia and the lions in Africa all have important characteristics to make their needs for food easiar. I hope I never come face to face with either. I always thought that tigers were more powerful. But you can't label something just because of your own ignorance you have to stud each animal before you can say anything at all.

The tiger is the biggest of all cats. he weighs much more than the lion and one on one I would say the tiger will demolish the lion. Yes he is a loner, but with his strength he is well capable of catching his prey alone. In the lion camp the females do the hunting in packs. The male lion is too "lazy", he lets the females do all the work and then of course he takes the best meat!! ha-ha - sounds funny but is in fact true that the females hunt and the male gets first choice togetehr with the females and then the babies. The male doe snot really tolerate the babies to eagerly. he will also kill another females pubs without blinking because then she comes into season and he can mate again. Thei mating ritual of course lasts for up to three days in which time it is not a good idea for any lion to come near the male!!!! But to your asnwer, the tiger is stronger and bigger than the male!! The tiher by the way is only cat that will willy-nilly attack a human. The other cats will only attack when feeling threatened or are very hungry or you are near their babies. Not the tiger, anything is enemy to him.

Though the african lion is pretty huge and dwarfs the indian and sumatran tigers, the Siberian tiger is bigger than the lion. It is, in fact
the largest big cat in the world. The Indian Tigers are about the same size as the Lions.
But even in India the tigers are bigger as you go North,The Royal Bengal tiger is bigger than those in the South.
The Siberian Tiger is the biggest of them all.
According to recent study, scientists say that lions have the strongest forelegs of the big cats, and they have a knack to being more ferocious. Even though tigers are heavier and longer, it's ferocity that determines a winner. Scientists say that Siberian tigers may lack that in comparison to a lion. However, the lion's 'built for fighting' physique has turned him into a poor predator.
The tiger has stronger hind legs, therefore making him faster and more agile. That would make a tiger more of a predator than a fighter.
Lions have all the equipment of a fighter huge forelegs, the mane, and the stocky body. Because of the mane the male lion is a poor predator. He however has a fierce desire to defend his territory. They have been known to kill or drive off rhinos.

Lets talk Lions fighting Tigers one on one - forget social behaviour of a group for a sec.
Lions have mane and are taller - 4 feet. Tiger is 3 feet tall and has no mane. This is a key difference - Lions fore quarters are bigger and stronger and more adapted to fighting. Tigers hind legs are stronger and is more adapted to hunting. They have more leaping power. Tigers have 4 inch canines and Lions 3-3 1/2. This doesn't make a big difference in a fight unless able to get a throat bite, which the lion is more experienced in. This makes a difference only with pray. Their claw sizes are the same.
Lions have much more skills acquired for fighting. Tigers have more skills acquired for hunting. Lions are much more aggressive and willing to fight while tigers can be aggressive but are not as willing to fight. Tigers are bigger and heaviour on an average by 70 pounds if you compare largest of cats. African Lions and Bengal tigers weigh almost the same. Size could make a difference if its all muscle which is not always the case. Tigers have thicker hide which could contribute for weight. With the African heat, a lion has little fat in its body.
Facts aside, lets sit down for the real fight:
Female lioness vs Female tiger:
I think generally a female lioness is taller but smaller than a tigeress. Tigeress is gonna be apprehensive about the lionesses presense but not the lioness. In my opinion, lack of mane on the lioness and brute force of the tigress will give an edge to the tigress.
Prolonged fight can result in death but is highly unlikely. Both are likely to respect each other.
Male Lion vs Male Tiger:
Lion with stronger forequarters is taller and slightly smaller if its a Siberian tiger else almost the same and would be bigger if its any other kinda tiger. Tiger with its stronger hind legs, has instinct to stand up on its hind legs and unleash paw swipes. But the key in this fight is aggression. Male lion is far superior with fighting skills and is far more aggressive. Lion has stronger paw swipe but cannot stand as tall as a tiger. Sheer brute force from the Lion will give him the advantage in this fight.
In this fight, its unlikely that the fight would stop like with the females, and most likely will result in tigers death.
Having said all this, this fight would be between a real male African lion in its prime(4-5 year old) defending its kingdom and a bengal tiger in its prime of the similar age. Also, mind that there can be exceptions.
There are videos on the internet that are hugely biased and one has to remember that these are not real jungle cats. These are brought up in the zoo and lack many skills we talked above and would most likely not survive in the wild.

Oh wow, what a neat idea! I'd love to do that, too, but they DO have quite big teeth... They are still wild animals and as cute and snuggly as they may appear, that wild side is in there just waiting to jump out when you least expect it. Remember Siegfried and Roy? They hand raised those white tigers, played with them everyday and look what happened. Even the monks at that temple in Thailand are aware of the wild side of these magnificent animals, you can be sure. To answer your question: NO, I don't know of anyplace in the USA or Ontario where you could pet tigers. Have you "googled" the question? Maybe your local zoo can direct you. Good luck. Bless the animals.

A tiger is actually the largest of all the big cats. As for toughness, that's a hard thing to measure. Lions are very tough because the pride works together to bring down large prey. Tigers tend to hunt smaller prey since they do hunt alone. It's hard to pin one against the other because their toughness is used in different ways. But as far as size, the tiger wins.

the siberian tiger or amur tiger as it is now known is the largest of the big cats. lions are smaller and hunt in prides. when it comes to toughness i'd go for the tiger as they are known to kill crocs out of the water but to us they are both equally dangerous whether alone or in a pride.
