I understand the number plate needs to be shown while driving. Do I need to buy a new set of plates, or can I write the number plate details on the back of an ice cream carton lid? Any ideas? Im in Australia.

You cannot use a written number plate. Here in the UK,it would not be allowed for use. What does need to happen, if the number plate is obscured,is to have a trailer board. This will incorporate a pair of rear lamps, and provision to take another number plate, which would have to be obtained. This would make it legal for road use.I can't imagine the laws are going to be that different.Hope this info helps.

my husband always colour scans his number plate and prints it up, laminates it, and hey presto!
otherwise, you always see people with written versions.
