I'm from the US and I don't know much about UK slang. I thought it was some sort of derogatory term.

A poppadom is an indian wafer eaten with a meal ,it is disc shaped about 8" in diameter thin and has a dry spicy taste and is crisp in texture. You normally eat it with the pickles such as lime chutney, mango sauce mint and cucumber sauce . very nice as a starter before a curry. No it aint racial slang

The correct spelling is 'pappadam', and stands for a round crispie made from lentil flour, and shallow fried or roasted. It is eaten with an Indian meal, along with pickles. It can have additional ingredients like garlic paste/chilli powder/ground potatoes mixed into the batter. It is also served along with beer as a starter.
Two variations of the item are 'appalam' and 'papad'.

It isn't slang, but it is an Indian food, a very large flat thin fried disc of flour etc, eaten and used to sccop up curries etc instead of using a fork, can be plain or have things like coriander, chillies etc added.
