Blow up an inflatable beach ball twice a day your lungs are muscles and respond to exercise , as it becomes easier try blowing it up while it's under a blanket .
I read somewhere that a free dive champion could hold they're breath under water for something like 6 minutes !
Why not look up free divers , they compete to reach the lowest depths possible without breathing apparatus and of course surface again , it is incredibly dangerous because the deeper you go the longer it will take to surface so if you go to deep you will run out of air before surfacing . you might find some tips from the pro's .

Most people can hold their breath for forty seconds, Tanya Streeter - world free diving champin - can hold her breath for over six minutes!
Diving to the ocean floor on a single breath originated from pearl and sponge fishermen, but in the last 20 years has it become an internationally competitive sport. It requires superhuman levels of stamina and fitness.
Peter Sheard a Biomedical Scientist says "For the most part we can take any fit, healthy individual and get them up to four and a half minute breath-hold. To get into the six, seven, and even eight minute breath-holds, you're looking at a very exceptional person, they're doing things that we cannot fully explain".
I guess like everything else in life its dedication and practice that helps! Try to improve posture, dep breaths and build upto actually holding your breath. MAKE SURE SOMEONE ELSE IS THERE - you can hyperventilate and pass out!

I think you can enlargen your lungs capacity by training...Maybe that's stupid, but it sort of worked for me :)
I heald my breath for 45 seconds, and the next morning I came up to 49 seconds. And now, if an emergency occurs, I can hold my breath for 1 minute and 5 seconds!

You can't really change the size of yours lungs, but the fitter you are, the longer you can last without oxygen.

training's the simplest answer. I played sax for years, and as a result of that, I can hold my breath for a relatively long time.

ask david blaine that question.
or you could do push ups and situps and pullups everyday.
i heard of this guy who ran 50 marathons in 50 days and to do so he had to get his heart bigger which in turn made his lung capacity larger just by doing push ups and sit ups and pull ups everyday.
