It is what you make it. Sure a baby that dies after living for six weeks obviously didn't have the time or the knowledge to mae it worth while, but look at it another way. That baby probably brought so much joy to the people aound it for that time period that maybe it did make the most of its life, even unknowingly it was able to make a bunch of people happy. Life IS what you make of it, if you don't think so look at your friends and family and say have i made a difference in there lives, which I'm sure at sompoint you have, and when you realize yeah you have... well done.

To an extent, but there are so many variables in life we can't control, I totally believe some are happier than others just due to better circumstances, who doesn't want good things to happen? And yet for many people, it's one trial after another for no obvious reason. I don't believe it's the same for everyone and just a question of having a "good attitude".

To a great extent, we live as a consequence of our actions. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we do not have a blank check. Research now shoes that our genes plays a moderating influence that makes us do things as a result of it's programming. In this context, freedom is an illusion, we think we are free but aren't completely free...for lurking within us is our partner genes.

Yes. Some people start out with advantages -- family, money, etc. -- and throw it all away. Some start out with nothing, but manage to get an education, find a job, marry well, etc -- whatever they want out of life. I also think that those who work for what they get appreciate it more than those who have it handed to them -- so maybe those who start with nothing and struggle to the top are happier than those who started there.
