I didn't use the car just for 24hrs, then the new battery is dead. The car was covered with snow, does it affect the battery's function just for 24hrs?

sounds like you got a short and running down the battery.also do this.before you go to bed,disconnect the battery and see if its still up the next morning.also you could have something staying on all the time and draining the battery.

Some of the answers already given are quite relevant;

If the battrery was new and only left unstarted for 24 hours, problems could be;

Alternator not charging or the alternator belt broken. . (Usually the warning light on the dash would appear.) Though if car has not been used, this is unlikely. If car has been used in dark with lights on, you would notice the dim lights.

Possible earth fault, where trhe battery will drain and can be exagerated in wet weather as the water causes a path to earth and drains the battery. best take it to a reputable autoelectrician.

Light left on?

It is unlikely that a new battery is faulty, and most new batteries are sealed and therefore do not require topping up as already stated by someone.

Honestly, you have a Ford Escort, that is the biggest prob. We just got rid of one last year because it was nothing but trouble. Not only that, sometimes, but very very very rarely, the snow and cold could be a factor. I would jump the car, take it to your local parts store and have the check the alternator. Sometimes changing out the battery can have that affect on an old alt. And, I would go ahead and D/C the batt, clean the connections, and put in a set of the red and green felt rings on there and then reconnect the batt.

You neet to check the battery water level at regular intervels.
You need to see if there is any electric short circut.
In cold season it takes some time for the engin to get heated to start. If you constanstantly cranck the engin without a 30 second break the battery will drain and next time it would not even crank when you turn the key. If a disel car, heat it first. If petrol car then allow some extra petrol by pulling the choke.

Sounds like you left a light on or some thing else that drained the battery.You might have a short some where in the electrical system

if its an older one the accelorator or choke cable can create a short circuit on them so just check that out. snow wont affect it like that so u might hav left your interior light on also.

IF YOU HAVE THE RECIEPT I WOULD BRING THE BATTERY BACK AND TELL THEM. YOU WANT TO EXCHANGE IT. AND I WOULD MAKE SURE NOTHING IN YOUR CAR IS DRAINING OUT THE BATTERY.
