There are many ways of doing this, but most of the time I just want to clear out addresses and search stuff I misspelled.

Clear the address bar of whatever's in it (highlight and delete), and click the down arrow next to the address bar. This should make all the addresses appear in a drop down menu.

Move your mouse over the offending address / search and hold it there. Then on the keyboard find the [Delete] key (it's above the arrow keys). Hit the delete key once for each item you want to delete.

I'd like to suggest that you download and try Firefox side by side with IE for a week. Let me know what you think...
