Hypnotism is, in a sense, the programming of your subconscious. According to hypnotism, the subconscious is stronger than the conscious mind. For example, many smokers would like to stop smoking but can't. Even knowing how bad it is, they cannot stop smoking because their subconscious minds see them as smokers. Whatever the subconscious mind thinks, the person will do.

Hypnotism is quite natural, dealing with the mind itself. It is not useful for unlocking the power of the supernatural unless that power is accessible through relaxation or some other natural means.

Later: After reading some of the other answers, I would also like to point out that hypnotism usually works more easily on intelligent people because they are able to focus their attention better. Being easily persuaded, if that means being gullible, has nothing to do with hypnotism. One must be able to focus the mind and relax.

I wouldnt' say anything about "Supernatural", but yes, hypnotism is a real, viable science. I was hypnotised in a dinner club one time and I was made stiff as a board. I was then placed across 2 chairs (the backs of the chairs one each under my shoulders and my ankles) like a bridge. Then, the hypnotist had a woman from the audience come and stand on my stomach. I am not a big athletic guy at all. At the time I was 5'11" and only 130 lbs. He also had me dancing and all kinds of other stuff in front of the whole room of about 200 people, even though I was a pretty shy person. Hypnotists also can help people stop bad habits and overcome fears.

If your real objective in experiencing hypnotism is unlocking super natural in you....,then it will be a play in illusions. YOUR Mind is a great instrument, to unlock innumerable mysteries within Nature. To be in graceful powers of super-natural, you will have to transcend Nature or the Mental imaginary Spheres. Who are you..? Instantly you come in the Present...stay in here...suddenly you transcend thinking...thinking at its own is indifferent from the mind. This openess is the door for the original to set display of being......,which encloses all the secrets that you seek.. your remain Awake..moment to moment ....the origin of doubt is again the vicious cycle of the illusive mental process....!!

Hypnotism will work for some people and not for others. You have to be easily persuadable for it to work. I once attended a hypnotherapy class to learn how to do hypnosis but the teacher also went round and tried it on the class and one woman experienced quite a miraculous improvement in some pain she had been getting in her shoulder whilst it didn't work a bit on me.

I've been hypnotised a few times, it's like a really, really deep relaxation & it didn't unlock my powers (I already had them).

I have not had it done, nor will I. I doesn't unlock the power in "you", it gives demons the doorway into you.
