Thousands upon thousands of years of "biological clock" timing by most species...because the Sun's light made daytime THE time for the development of all those things necessary for animals AND man to survive and prosper--it was in fact Worshiped by many FOR thousands of years !!
The introduction of lighting changed a great deal of that for Man but for the short time that it's been around in comparison to the times before---it has had Little time to compete and sway the "instilled" norms !!

Animals neeed to eat. The easiest time to forage or hunt is when you can see what you are looking for. Humans are animals.

We do not see well @ night. and then too we are probably tired from being awake all day long plus it is hard to sleep with all that sunshine (most days) glaring in our eyes
