Hi i can tell you my own experience how i got my apprenticeship as a auto paint sprayer panel beater at 16 years old
i saw a garage with damaged cars and vans parked outside i had a good what was going on so i just went into the garage off chance
and asked for the boss i told him i was really into cars and how i would like to learn how to repair them i asked many questions about
painting cars welding them i spent quite a while with him he showed
me round the garage the paint booth cars that was getting stripped of their damaged parts and so on
a week later i got a phone call and began my apprenticeship as a vehicle paint sprayer panel beater
just checkout local garages near you and go and talk to them first impressions count just be friendly and ask questions about engines gearboxes tools etc tell them what you want to do etc and say you heard that its an excellent quality garage just as a sweetener you never know you may get a call
best of luck

Hi, I am an ex motor mechanic, & the best info i can give you is to got to all the MAIN dealers & ask to speak to the Service Manager & ask him if he/she has any vacancies for an apprentice motor mechanic & what training fascilities the company is offering (college day release, any incentive on help with buying tools etc, as they can be very expensive, & always go for the best tools ie, Snap-0n), it does nmo harm to ask, so if you dont ask, you will not find out, & good luck

What I did when I was 16 was o send a letter to all the garages in the local area asking if they wanted apprentices. Try to get a job in a main dealer as they give you better long term prospects.

Kwik fit? He said motor mechanics not tyre fitter. IMO you will need to do a college course to understand the job properly, I did a 3 year course in mechanics, bodywork and welding and fabrication. I no longer work with cars for my main job but that course got me where I am today and I dont regret it one bit.

I don't know your age. However, go to your local careers centre / Connexions Centre and speak to a careers adviser or adult careers adviser if you're over 18. They are AMAZING. They know everything about apprenticeships in your area and they WILL help you. Good luck.

I'm a foreman in a daf truck dealer. keen interested bright lads are not easy for garages to find . if you are all of these go to your local garages and speak to the service manager. don't be shy, (remember he was once in your shoes) and tell them what you are looking for. good look+ don't dismiss truck dealers, the jobs a lot cleaner + more technical than it use to be +tends to pay better. good luck

Ask about courses at the employment office and local garages if they want an apprentice.

the best idea would be to go to your local college and enquire there.they might say you can go straight into the course or you might need to get better grades first.
