Some people are concerned with different subjects. So they maintain a seperate email address for each. Some keep a separate email address just for Product Registration, so SPAM goes there.

I tend to have several. One for each 'persona' that I wish to use. For instance, I have a personal email address that only friends and family get, and another that online services get, and yet another that forums get, et al. The reason people get spam is because they use the same email or persona for EVERYTHING. I get maybe twenty or so spams a month in my personal, but my 'junk' email address gets 100s. There are many other reasons to use an alternative persona, like maybe to scheme something or someone or to simply have multiple online personalities.
Would you want your same info on your personal account as you would, say, your downloading of pirated software?

simple reason, to explore. In their base id's there try to sound genuine, and very reasonable to everyone.
then comes the other id's where they want to put up their intent, which they could not share , otherwise. also this ids attract different personalities for interaction......sports related, fun related, sex related, entertainment related and .........the list goes on .................so does the attempt to discover......
this still can be done with a base id, but recognition of id by others typecasts him to be a specific type

it would seem to me that anyone needing multiple screen names is someone that has something to hide. perhaps they are online stalkers, andto keep from getting caught, switch identities.
