According to rules from Homeland Security and the Department of State, passports will be required for all persons returning to the US by air or sea on or after January 23, 2007. This rule applies to adults and children.

Right now, returning via land (auto, bus, etc.), you will need a passport effective January 1, 2008.

These rules and dates have changed before, so it's quite possible that there may be a last minute change in the January 23, 2007 date. If there is, I'm sure it will receive national attention in the news.

Incidentally, I just renewed my passport in October - it took about 5 weeks using standard service. They do offer expedited service at additional cost - if you need it!

Enjoy your Bahamas cruise. Bon Voyage!

In our agency, we have been advising all clients of the new regulations for about 6 months.

No, you absolutely do not need a passport to cruise to the Bahamas. Enjoy your trip!
