Yes. Latex perishes over time - which means it's more likely to tear. The holes could be too small to see easily but still large enough to allow a small amount of semen through.

If this happens then any protection against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases would be lost.

Don't take the risk - buy a new one!

It will affect the condom because the latex will break down over a period of time. Condoms should also be stored in a cool dark place whenever posible. Putting one in your wallet isn't wise because it is more likely to get holes from the heat and friction.

Don't risk it!

The use by date is put there for a reason. If you still use the condom, you will be putting yourself and your partner at risk of contracting an STI or pregnancy. Condoms past their use by date are less effective.

The rubber may be slightly perished and so be more likely to split. But condom rubber is pretty strong stuff - you have to be quite brutal, careless with fingernails, or totally confused about how it works, to get pregnant when using a condom.

I definitely wouldn't use a condom if the little packet wasn't sealed when I opened it, however.

It will affect it or it wouldn't have a use by date,so unless you're prepared to start changing nappies in 9 months time I'd heed the date !
