Macs run way faster, have cooler apps, and are really easy to use. The only bad thing is that it is sometimes hard to use certain software since most software is only windows compatible. PCs are really common, everyone has them, and you'll be able to run any kind of program you want on them. Personally, I love my mac. It's a billion times better than the PCs I used to have. It never crashes or freezes (unlike windows), never gets viruses(unlike windows) and it looks a lot cooler.

1. Start with what you need a computer for. It is how you want to use it and not who makes it that matters.

2. Then decide what software and maybe specialized hardware you will need.

3. The Mac will run either Apple's OS X operating system or Windows from Microsoft. With a third party solution you can run both operating systems at the same time. Hence there is little need to pick the hardware based on the operating system if you buy an Apple Mac.

Note you have to pay extra for the second operating system.

4. If you expect to do certain things then consider the cost of the software if the applications do not come with the computer. For many audio, video or other media related things you will find that the Mac's free software is both up to the task and a true bargain compared to having to buy the alternatives for the PC. Some packages that are free on the PC will work.

5. If you are mostly using the web, chatting, sending emails and other traditional things then doing so from the Mac's OS X means you will much less hassle from viruses and spyware. For many reasons the Mac platform is not a target like Windows on a PC.

6. Go to an Apple store and check out the choices plus the prices. Go to a good PC shop and do the same. If you have a preference ask yourself why. Try to convince yourself of the merits of the opposite just so you truly compare both.

7. Note that the price should largely be the same if you are really comparing two systems with approximately the same configurations. Unlike the past, Apple does not have to cost more and can actually cost less for comparable hardware before factoring in the free software. It really can come down to preferences and what you want to use. You might also consider where you can get support if you want to have a shop close by.

I have worked on both. The mac is smooooother. Like driving a luxury car. But the PC I'm told has more programing out there. Anyway I have been using a PC for the last couple of years and it works for me. If you have extra money to spend buy both.

I would buy a mac because mac computers don't get too many viruses. Also mac is kind of a friendly computer for kids to use. I have a PC because I like PC's better. Everybody has diffrent opinions.

Here's what Apple has to say:

1. It just works.
How much time have you spent troubleshooting your PC? Imagine a computer designed by people who hate to waste time as much as you do. Where all the hardware and software just works, and works well together. Get a Mac and get your life back.

2. You can make amazing stuff.
Every Mac comes with iLife ’06, a suite of software that transforms your photos, music, and video into all kinds of projects. Make high-quality websites, photo books, DVDs, songs, slideshows, music CDs, calendars, cards, prints, podcasts, music videos, documentaries, and more.

3. Design that turns heads.
You won’t want to hide your Mac in a corner of the den. You’ll want it front and center in your life. The Apple style shows in every detail, from its sculpted surfaces to its gorgeous Mac OS X graphics.

4. 114,000 Viruses? Not on a Mac.
Mac OS X was designed with security in mind. Windows just wasn’t built to bear the onslaught of attacks it suffers every day. A Mac offers a built-in firewall, doesn’t advertise its existence on the Net, and isn’t compromised within an hour of being turned on.

5. Next year’s OS today.
Since Mac OS X engineers aren’t busy damming a flood of viruses, they have the time to think up amazing new technology. Like Dashboard widgets, mini-applications offering a world of capabilities just a keystroke away. Or a built-in RSS news reader.

6. The latest Intel chips.
Intel Core Duo processors put you on the cutting edge. In fact, a Mac with an Intel chip is so fast it surprises even longtime Windows pundits, who keep running benchmarks again and again. Results? Fast. Fast. Yup, still fast.

7. Instant video chats.
Setting up a video chat with the people next door — or across the globe — should be as simple as picking up the phone. On a Mac, you just click an icon to have a four-way video chat in a full-screen window with amazing clarity and special effects.

8. More fun with photos.
On a Mac, you don’t need any extra software to make a photo book. You don’t have to leave your photo software to visit a separate website and wait for forms to load. All you need is a camera and a Mac.

9. One-click websites.
How long does it take to post a photo or video to your blog on a PC? On a Mac, you can shoot a picture or a movie with the built-in camera, then post it on the web in a few clicks. Pontificate, preachify, and publish. The hardest part is coming up with something to say.

10. Amazing podcasts.
Want to get your message out to the world? Podcast it. A Mac makes it simple to create professional podcasts, complete with artwork. Add sound effects and jingles, even use the built-in radio engineer to make it perfect. So you can be a talk star in seconds.

11. Rock star tunemaking.
Musicians get all the girls (or guys). And a Mac has the software to turn you into the musician of your dreams. Choose from hundreds of cool riffs and instruments to create your own songs. Get good enough and you could be on iTunes.

12. Hollywood-style movies.
Connect your DV camera and turn your movies into spectaculars. Add graphics, titles, and sound effects in minutes. Then use your Mac to burn a DVD or post to your website.

13. No hunting for drivers.
Just plug in your stuff. A Mac includes USB drivers for mass storage, digital cameras, input devices, iPod, and more. It can see Bluetooth cell phones and headsets, as well as FireWire cameras. No rebooting.

14. Awesome out of the box.
Other computers include software, it’s true. But once you start using that software, you find that you’re hobbled in some way or another. Software included with the Mac, on the other hand, is critically acclaimed as best in class.

dont think of the kind of computer... they both have good features (now if only someone could combine the comps with only the good features...!) but for what you need it for. I'm in college now, studying architecture. To run architecture programs, I need a PC... but I'm used to the great stabablity that Macs have. I therefore chose a MacBook that could run both operating systems.
Maybe you're going into music... Macs are good there... but maybe you're going into something that requires PCs... maybe you're just used to one operating system, so why switch?

Because the store is out of PC's AND Nintendos?

Only reason I can think of.

Seriously though - good luck finding popular software for a Macintoy. And god help you if it ever breaks down.
