freechess.org is reputed to be the best but I cant get it to load on my mac. Chess in yahoo games is the one I use as I refuse to pay for any of the others. Its not bad either

I play at World Chess Network- It is a pay site like ICC but much easier to use and the graphical interface is simply lovely. It's also a Pure Chess site with many lectures, banters and Master Challenges held by Grandmasters FIDE masters as well as international masters from across the globe. They offer private lessons with GM's and such as well as three different types of memberships- Gold, silver and bronze depending on your devotion to chess and how much you wish to play and pay- I go with the gold which will run you about 45-50 USD a year but with gold you get all the features the site offers. You can try it as a guest to see if it's right for you, here is the website. www.worldchessnetwork.com
Hope to see you there.
