How long do you normalley last in a job? if you job hop alot what are your reasons for doing so? Im finding myself wanting to leave my job already after just 7 months and move on to something else. Is this acceptable considering my longest job has been just under 2 years?

I've only had 3 jobs since College
1. 25 years with Major Oil Company.
2. 10 years with Federal Government.
3. 4 years with State Government (My current job)

I have been fortunate to have been assigned to a lot of different positions within the same organizations over the years.

I hope you find something that you are comfortable with.

Good Luck...

I don't last long because I have a mental illness that no employer understands. Sometimes I have to call in because I'm having an episode where even if I do go in I'm not good at my job anymore, so I get yelled at.
My longest job has been two years, and I still have it, only because I wedged myself in and I happen to have skills that no one else does. Still, I'm on the brink of termination.
One thing that putting up with this has taught me is that you can't take entry-level, minimum-wage jobs too seriously. The employers here know that they can always find a replacement because the qualifications are so minimal (compared to a specialist job that people go to college for). They just want good workers. So, if you don't like it, try something else. Job-hopping subconsciously helps you figure out what kind of career you want.

I think the more important thing is to find a career that you like.
I have remained in the same line of work my entire life, 25 years, and besides making good money I have become very proficient.
Challenges have become just that, a challenge that I am equipped to overcome and therefore become rewarding successes.
No question, employers will look at work record of job hopping with suspicion. You may have had a good reason for leaving but they will always wonder if in fact you were let go.
Figure out what you want to do and never, never leave a job unless you have a new one lined up. You are 100% more hireable if you are applying for a job while employed, it deletes the question in the employers mind about weather you were actually let go or not.

I find that I start getting bored with a job after 2-3 years. What I have tried to do is work for companies that are large, where I can move from one job to another internally. That way, I'm with a company longer. I've been with my current company for 6 1/2 years now. I've moved about 2 times and I have been reorg'd once.

i only leave the company if i find myself not growing nor maturing with the usual task daily...but if i find a company worth staying and i know ill learn more that will be of use in the future, id stay, and now, im in my 8th year in the company and so far its getting better...its nice to always know that you stay long in a company, record and length of stay always is an important factor that will be useful in the future....
