Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to rid yourself of your current cold. But you can do some things to sorten the duration of your cold and increase your immunity, so you are less likely to catch a cold in the first place.
To help you rid yourself of your current cold, make sure you take a multi-vitamin daily, you can also take extra vitamin C (vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, so any excess that your body doesn't use will be excreted through your urine).
Make sure you get plenty of rest.
Wash your hands often (with soap and water for approx. 30sec. getting in-between fingers and on top of hands).
Blow your nose when necessary (this helps expel infected mucus).
Replace your toothbrush or your toothbrush head.
Wash your pillow case.
If you have a cough consider taking an over the counter expectorant, this will help your coughs be more productive.
Chicken soup (the therapeutic benefits have been studied by the medical community, findings varied, but the overall conclusion is that chicken soup is good for easing the symptoms and shortening the duration of the common cold.)
There are also a lot of over the counter medications that you can take to ease the symptoms and make you less miserable.

To lessen your chances of getting a cold in the first place, make sure you eat a well balanced diet (or at least take a multi-vitamin).
Get plenty of rest.
Exercise (wash your hands after your workout at a gym, you never know if the person on the treadmill before you had a cold).
Wash your hands.

Good luck, Feel better

Unfortunately, scientists have been working on that very question for many years now, and still haven't come up with a solution. There are some pretty good medicines that will make you feel better though. Cold Eeze is one that is supposed to shorten the duration of the cold. Also, try large doses of Vitamin C. Colds can just sometimes be really miserable. Sorry, and hope you feel better soon.

You can't, it must run it's course, it is a virus, you touched something that had it on it, and wiped your eye or some other part of your face and contracted it ( a door knob is a safe bet), you didn't get it by going out with a wet head, or the weather getting cold. Being a virus it is classified as "NON-LIVING", all a virus likes to do is "Replicate" and spread, unfortunately they choose US as the host for their work (lazy little &%# ), you can only relieve the symptoms.

Hot tea with lemon & sugar, Blow your nose so mucus doesn't stay in, Robutussin Head & Chest Congestion every 4 hours, and Menthol Cough Drops.....How do I know? I've had a cold this week, and with these remedies, I haven't felt really bad. Just a little bad.
