There are a couple of observations you need him to make.

Is the blood is bright red or is it dark in color.
The faeces in this situation( dark) look tarry in color but will impart some redness into the toilet water.

If red in color then the bleeding is low, that is, it is in the anal passage and can be hemmoroids or a hemmoroid. This is a vein that has a weakened wall and expanded. When a motion is passed it tends to fracture the vessel wall and so blood will be released.
Between motions clotting will occur and bleeding may not be seen in the underclothes but at the next motion or even passing of wind.

Dark blood passing means the damage is higher up, stomach or large colon, but high enough to have some reabsorption or digestion ( in stomach).

A third possibility is that his stools as well as being red with blood may also be thin and pencil like. This is most serious as it would indicate a tumour or a carcinoma of the bowel.

Whichever it is he needs to have it investigated and treated, before the situation becomes worse.

He had better go to his GP soon as it's a sign of large bowel cancer or something just as nasty. Unless he has bleeding piles that's another possibility less alarming. But still it's better to get it checked out.
Or you could be spot on with the IBS but how will you know unless it's checked out.

hi there, i have been suffering from that recently. it could very well be ibs because i was told i had that when i was younger. It could also be piles or a little rip inside just at his bum. however it could be something more serious than that like cancer of the colon which is why i'm going to get it checked out on monday at the doctor's just to be safe.

hope this helps

Bleeding is not a sign of IBS, though stomach pain and loose motions are

It could be something more serious or it coiuld be piles. If your husband's not worried that might be because he knows it's piles

Bleeding from any orifice should be checked out . It may be haemorroids but on the other hand it may be something very serious .. The fact you mentioned a change in his stools has alarm bells for me . Tell him you will go with him to the doctor , he really should go see about it ASAP.

Good Luck .

He is probably suffering from piles but needs to go to the doctors and get it checked out. Could go into detailed advice however the best thing to do is go adn see a good colon hydrotherapist and get his bowels sorted out.

I'm no Doctor. He may have colon cancer, or simply piles. He must avoid spicy & oily food first. Anyway he must consult a Doctor. I hope he can do something for sure. Don't panic. Wish him early recovery and good health
