Not always. Each preg is different with my daughter they broke my water and my plug came out then, I was already at 4 cm . With my son I never did see it come out. Some times you see it some time you don't. It might come out in very little pieces.

usually. I stated having contractions then lost my mucus plug and my water broke all in 10 min. I didn't actually give birth until 13 hours later...i have heard of other people losing their mucus plug a day or so before actual labor.

No. You can lose your mucous plug seconds before the baby comes out. Sometimes, it happens weeks before the baby is born, sometimes, moments. Some women never see their mucous plug.

The best way to tell if you're in labor is to time your contractions. If they're 5 minutes apart or less and lasting for 45-60 seconds, you're probably in labor.

Not all pregnant women lose their mucous plug before they start labor. I was in labor 27 hours before I lost my plug (at the hospital) and after that my contractions started to get stronger and closer together. 12 hours after i lost it my baby was born. Not all women are like this though...my friend gave birth a month before me and she lost her mucous plug over several days, and gave birth about a week later.

Some woman lose theirs two weeks before giving birth, while others lose theirs just before. Everyone is different and it doesn't really have to be a sign of impeding labour. The best way to tell your going into labour is if your contractions are regular and strong. Even some women's waters don't break till right before either.

I would say NO. Mine didn't go until I had been in very painful (huffing and puffing, gas and air and morphene job!) labour for approx 15 hours! I guess were all different. Good luck.
