Goofy as this may sound, we are not in war with Iraq. That was over with when Saddam was toppled.

A new government was installed in Iraq by the Iraqi people, and we are trying to help it stabilize the nation. Honestly, that is what is going on, leaving out all the weighted phrases.

The problem of course is that the Iraqi people really cannot agree what kind of government they should have, and are fighting for it. And until they do, all we really can accomplish is try to keep them from killing each other while they decide.

Of course if you stand in a bar trying to stop a fight, you usually get drawn into it, which is what is happening.

The question before the American people is really "Can we stop that fight?". The administration, and some others think yes. Others in both parties think probably not, but we really need to try, or the fight will spread to the whole bar (the Middle East). And the last side thinks trying to stop the fight is futile, and we should just get out of the way.

Now I used the bar fight metaphor because that is exactly the situation, and there is no right answer that covers everything. I tend to believe with the second group personally.

Lots of great answers here....

We are at War in Iraq due to the Texas Gunslinger we have in office - he's a great spokesperson for the new age fascists, the Neocons.

I am waiting for him to rewrite the constitution (yet again) to remove the term limits set for Presidents.

Ask any Bush supporter - they would be all for it!

We are not in a war with Iraq. We declared war on Iraq, and that war is over. In case, you have been living under a rock for the past few years, we invaded and overthrew Saddam Husein in 6 months. However, it is the two religious groups, the Sunni and Shiites, that cause the deaths we hear about today. They are the "radical Muslims". Before you start blaming them for sustaining America's "visit" in Iraq, you must realize that it is actually part of their religion. The term "Jihad" means struggle and when Muhammad founded the religion of Islam, he struggled greatly and came over many obstacles to found his religion. This led to him decreeing that in order to go to "heaven", one must struggle, or "Jihad". Sadly, these radical Muslims have two things in their line of sight to struggle with, their rivaling group of Muslims, whether it's Shiites or Sunnis, and the Americans. It is sad but it is the truth. We are no longer fighting a war with Iraq but a war within it. A war with Shiites and with Sunnis.
