They bother the hell out of me!

They mutilated their child simply to make her more "convenient" like luggage, that they could carry around and make their lives more "manageable".

What bothers me more is the doctors that performed this surgery.

The parents CHOSE to have this child - they didn't have to, but they did.

Yes, it bothers me that the parents would be cruel enough to rationalize their own behaviour this way. And it bothers me even more that the doctors, under their oath, performed such a cruel surgery (harm none?). It's ridiculous.

I'm not a screaming religious fanatic, but I believe that she was made whatever way for a reason. I agree with you in that the parents chose to give birth to and raise Ashley, instead of putting her up for adoption. There are couples who can't have children who are qualified to raise a child like Ashley just the way that she is (not enough of them, but that is another Yahoo Question).

It's a real shame that the little girl is in her vegetable state, but it's not up to us to play god.

so do you still beat your wife?

why exactly do you ask a question that begets a particular answer? I'm not a medical doctor i am not trained as one, nor am i a specialist in moral theory or concepts, nor am i aware FIRST HAND of the particulars of this case (in general sure but i have not lived with them and seen there day to day life) the docotors involved with this where under extreem scrutiny they DID take the time to look into this and thought there was no moral conflict. why do you think your better then them?
I'm not saying your wrong or even that i disagree, only that you should at least assume there was SOME competence or that there is a possbility that you don't know all thats going on and so your oppinion should be automaticly assumed correct and right.

I read the article. I don't think it is a matter of "convenience or managable". It sounded like the parents were looking ahead for her best care after she grew older. How could you judge loving parents that had to make such a decision on how to care for their child, and especially how they described the proceedure being able to help them include her more in family functions. Have you ever had to care for a child? My two girls are 19 & 21... I cannot imagine having to still care for them at their size... I would think it would be literally impossible. They mention love in the article many times...THAT is what matters.
