does ne1 know abt symbolic manipulation? i found it with regards to sofwares such as matlab.

Symbolic manipulation is the capability of mathematical computer applications to solve math expressions as we do, transforming, simplifying, etc. The alternative is the numerical manipulation.
A sample of symbolic manipulation is:
you write down
f(x) = x^2
and then when you ask f'(x) you obtain 2 x.

I guess its only exclusive to that program of yours, also I saw a website that said the term is used only in the recent years.
