Telling white lies for me is oftentimes necessary. I don't go for the opinion that all lies are bad. There are instances in our daily lives when it is much better for the situation not tell the truth just as in the examples mentioned above. Furthermore, it's this white lies that enable us to live quite harmoniously with other people.
I could say that I am quite good at telling lies (both white lies and the graver ones) probably because I also have a good memory so I do not contradict myself later on and get caught. I try not to tell grave lies though as it is quite a strain trying to remember it and the consequences are not good. And this is the same way I spot liars, by remembering what they have said previously because sooner or later, if it is a lie, they will say something that lets it out --- as they say, a fish is caught by its own mouth.

It is not that we are not good at spotting them, it is more along the lines of we are not good at allowing for the possibility that we are being lied to.
Lies are quite easy to spot, even with a professional liar. This is because a lie is a conscious effort on the part of a person, who tells the lie knowing information that they have either contradicts or significantly impacts the statement being made. Even those who 'lie' for a living, like people in Intelligence and/or military, have to constantly practice their craft to maintain their ability to disguise their intent. Even acts of telling the truth help bolster a liar's position because they effectively counter any absolute notion that they cannot say anything true.
The truth is always preferred. A lie fundamentally expresses a breakdown in communication, since it means that information is needed to be withheld in order to maintain the relationship. A lie also acts as a power-play against another individual, since the withholding of information works to direct the other person along a path of thinking that is erroneous. A lie and respect cannot go together.

white lies are still lies. whereas a lie is said to
"protect" us from being founf out, a white lie is generally said to "protect" someone else. it's still a lie as it is the distortion of the truth, but the ethics behind it might excuse it.
yes, im very good.
here's a clue" a person who can repeatedly tell good jokes is a person who is or has the ability to become a good liar. jokes and lies are similar: they use parts of the true fact/event to make up an untrue fact /event. both a joke and a lie is a distortion of the truth.

yes I can, you'd clear the cobwebs in your head if you always told the truth.....just think, no one is important enough to lie to..all the way around, not my neighbor, not my friend, not the dentist, not the traffic cop, sooner or later I'll have to get real to be true to myself, be honest, I tell white lies and black lies to manipulate people, places, and things. Which is sick, just name it claim it and dump it, hope everyone wears their seat belts, cos life's a bumpy ride when you are honest. Get on with your life and live it like you want it.....good luck

i think lies are bad.. any type of lie... because u tend to always get caught in them no matter what.... about that dress... there are ways to tell the truth nicely... like "well i think it looks good on you, but its not my style, i personally wouldnt buy it, but you are to be your own person and like what you want" and if the dress is totally unflattering to them, omg yes you should tell them. bc u know someone else is going to say something about it to you and u are going to say something back and they are going to over hear you.
THINK, WHATS THE POINT IN LYING, WHEN YOU COULD TELL THE TRUTH?
the truth shall set u free... why feel guily about lying when u can feel comfortable about being honest?

All lies are bad. Have you ever read the Ten Commandments (in the Bible, God's Commandments) Thy Shall Not Lie...That includes little white lies, also!!!

Interesting question. One answerer said all lies are "bad." Really? If a co-worker or family member you admire asks you how you like her new dress (and you think it's awful), what do you tell her?

I don't lie. Sometimes the truth may be harsh, but there are nicer ways of expressing it.. and for me, truth is always better than a ((hated)) lie!! ..to give, and/or to get!!
