I wouldn`t have thought so as the water would already be soft. To answer those that don`t understand, Dish washers have a built in water softener which uses salt in the softening process, salt is put into this not added with the detergent.

No salt is needed in the dish washer unless your looking for another way to ensure you never have a huge goiter. Water softeners use a resin in the main chamber to remove hard water particles as the water flows through and, depending on your model, when a certain flow of softened water is produced or just plain on a timer, it will regenerate the resin by using the salt to clean the particles from the resin.

I don't think so. I've never heard of adding salt to a dishwasher. I just use dishwasher detergent, and I don't have a water softener.

Not if it is like mine. The water softener is supposed to take care of the problem so no additional salt is needed.
