You can always start a hobby with nothing and turn it into a business later. This is a good way to start because you can guage how well you'll do with only a minimum of money invested.
After that, the lowest sum is the cost of licensing and your first production and distribution of a product, which can be any size.
It really depends on what you want to do.
In the US, you can buy into franchises for as low as $1000 or as high as a few million (for a McDonalds or KFC).

I think it depends on the type of business you would like to start1.Do you need to take any courses?(these can be costly but they can be subtracted from the tax bill alongside all the other overheads.) 2.What kind of business is it? 3.Do you need stock?(this would initially be a substantial outlay, unless you open a stock account with a wholesaler. This would entitle you to at least a 10%reduction on purchases).4.Do you want to teach? 5.Do you want to work at home? 6.Are you a designer/artist/dressmaker/interior designer/chef.?I hope these questions and answers are of some help to you.A lot of people borrow money but that can be risky. So perhaps the family could help.If you need only a small amount of money, then it will be relatively easy to begin depending on the the biz you choose.Start with anything from between £250-00 to £500-00.L.J.C.

You can start a business for around $75. You simply get a vendor license and Tax ID and register the business name. Anything above that is used for generating business and therefore tax deductible... business cards, flyers, postage, accountant expenses, etc. You should really get to the library for a book on writing a business plan. You will be able to answer your own question based on what you want to do, how much you have, how much you need, and the profitability of the venture before you invest anything. Don't wait for your ship to come in... swim out to meet it.

My business costs $35 USD for a membership, plus one case of product, so you can be up and running with your own business for under $200 USD.
That case of product was the best investment I ever made because of what it has done for me, and it has changed the lives of people all around me who are now earning a living marketing it as well.
